New bed part 2

Lola LOVES the new bed. She is really hoping Reba doesn't destroy it. Yes she is wearing a sweater, she loves to stay warm.

New bed

We got a new dog bed this weekend..we have been waiting because they destroyed the last 3. But Reba seems to be better with her chewing. The bed isn't that big but she still got on it. They all love it! So far so good.

The dreaded phone call

So a few days ago I missed a call, then got a text that read:
"Your horses are running loose!"

As a horse owner that is not a call you want. And all I could picture was them running like they were in the Kentucky Derby like they did before I owned them and they got out at the old house. I raced home to find them both back in the pasture with my father in laws there. Apparently only Jack had gotten out-somehow he had opened the gate without breaking the chain. He got out and was running around, eating grass and playing with the dogs. He had a great time and luckily stayed on our property!!!!!!!! Savannah stayed in the barn the whole time. Jack is very playful and a big goofball. He is smart too, he always stands by the gate. Maybe he has been watching us open it. The gate is fixed and he won't be getting out again. I told him Santa was not bringing him anything this year and now every morning when I leave I remind him that I don't need any calls at work about him. Kids!

For me?

Last Christmas we had Snort-and I wanted to share a picture with you. Snort loved firewood. When we got our tree he was so excited. I really think he thought we got it just for him. We put it up and then a few minutes later this is what we found....him curled up next to it napping. I can't help but laugh thinking about it and about him plowing his big face into all the presents trying to smell them. He was a very special dog and we miss him very much.

A matter of opinion

Our Chihuahua loves her dad's recliner. She is happy to sit in his chair all day. So when we saw a mini recliner yesterday we knew she would love it!!!!! Her grandfather got it for her for Christmas, we have it hiding in the basement. Normal people would buy it for a child but we aren't normal. It is the cutest thing I have seen in awhile!!!!!!!!!!! My mom says it's the stupidest thing she has seen. To give you an idea on the size, my husband is 6'0 and the chair stands at right below his knees. Lola is going to be so happy, and we know Reba will try to sit on it.

Almost play time...

We almost had a moment....Angel, who doesn't play at all and our puppy who plays all the time ALMOST started playing this morning. It's was pretty cute and a big step for Angel because she has been pretty vocal about not liking the puppy.

Side note

There is a beautiful doberman pinscher named Shack that belongs to some people in the house behind our woods. He is huge and the biggest baby. It really makes me mad people letting their dogs run loose but especially him. If you didn't know him you would be scared of him due to size and breed. He comes to visit us a lot and if my husband said it was okay I would go ask them if I could keep him. Yes I know them, I had to go knocking on doors in the rain when Shack and his buddy were at our house and his buddy left him. Apparently that was his GPS home because Shack was flipping out in our horse pasture not knowing how to get back home. And he is scared of the rain, he really wanted to come in the house. I really love him.

November is adopt a Senior dog month

If you were thinking about adopting-please consider a senior dog. I know everyone wants a puppy-they are so cute, have that puppy smell...well guess what-
They are a lot of work, you have to house train them and they LOVE to chew.
Here is an example of our puppy's handywork. And yes all of our spindles look like this....

Spelling Bee

There are two words you must spell out in our house...or our girls go NUTS!
T R E A T S
W A L K
Not sure which one they love more, going on walks or getting a treat. And don't even think you can walk just one of them..it's all or nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beautiful sight

Ever since I can remember I have loved horses. I am not even sure why, no one in my family owned them or really ever rode. But for years I took riding lessons thanks to my parents and grandparents, especially my grandma who drove all over the state of Georgia to take me back and forth. I never thought I would be living on so much land and able to have them. A big reason I am able to have them is because of my husband and inlaws. Every morning on the way to work I get to feed them and this is what I see....it's a beautiful sight. One day when we can afford it I would love to get saddles and bridles and be able to ride again.

Extra large

Meet Huffy! We think he is a few years old and an American Bulldog mix. He was given to my husband by a guy who couldn't/wouldn't take care of him. Shortly after getting him the vet told my husband Huffy had heart worms. So the poor dog had to go through heart worm treatment. Some dogs don't live through it-so important to make sure you are giving your pets their flea/heart worm medicine monthly!!! Huffy is now a big, healthy boy. He is with Patty and loves to run and sit in the sun. During the summer going to see them both is awful because of the slobber. But when it cools off like now it isn't bad. We took him to the vet recently and right before him and my husband left, my husband said "Hang on, I want to get him to calm down first." Our vet replied " I didn't know he had a calm down mode." He really is just a big baby. He has no mean bone in his body. Duke and Spot got out one day and Huffy wanted to play with them, well they had other ideas. They jumped him and in about 2 seconds he had gotten them both off.

Patty

A good picture of Patty....she thinks she is 10lbs.

Best friends...

Well most of the time. I think Missy wishes Reba was still her size. Now that Reba towers over her Missy doesn't like to play as much.

Tips for Grandma

In a few weeks my mom will be dog sitting her grand kids. Having four girls in the house ranging from 7lbs-65lbs is tough. And we have a routine. So I sent her some helpful tips. Which she will laugh at and delete...but here are some of them. We are dealing with some issues with Missy being a bully still so it's important to know her "triggers".

1. Missy and Reba need to stay separate as much as possible. We tend to rotate them outside. Reba is fine outside but does better if Angel is with her. Other wise they are like two 10 year old boys-they play and play until one gets hurt, then mad and then they fight and it is really bad. Reba is pushing 65-70 lbs and normally laid back but seeing her get mad is scary.
2. Watch Missy with Angel-she gets really weird sometimes with her. And if she snaps at Angel, Angel will snap back and it gets ugly. Missy is doing this because Angel is old.
3. Missy and Lola love getting into Bullet's room to eat cat food.
4. We leave Reba outside while getting food ready-there have been times she gets aggressive.
5. Don't leave Lola unattended with toy with no stuffing-she turns into a nut and attacks the other dogs and will bite you.
6. The Kong is only to be given to Reba with a treat inside of it outside while she is by herself. Otherwise there will be a fight.
7. Make sure when you put Angel and Lola up that Angel eats her treat before you step out. Angel will snap at Lola otherwise.

Best dog toy ever!

If you have a puppy or dog that destroys toys in a matter of minutes like Reba does you need one of these! They are great, no stuffing and last much longer. Our dogs love them so much that Lola takes the big one Reba has from her and then guards it with everything she has. We have to be careful because Lola loves the toys so much she can get crazy. Last night I put one on the bar because they were getting crazy. I went outside for a minute, came back in and found that Reba had gotten it off the bar and then Lola took it from her. Another toy we love in our house is the Kong. BUT we can only fill it with a treat and give to one of the dogs if they are outside by themselves-otherwise it gets ugly.

I didn't do it

We were lucky and got a lot of rain lately. Angel loves having a back yard and loves digging in holes. Which is fine except when she runs into the house. It's okay though, nothing a towel won't fix. And I am so happy she has a backyard.

The cat who loves water

Bullet is 13 and has always loved water. He drinks from a faucet, sometimes here recently he will drink from his water bowl but he doesn't like it. Before he drinks though, he puts his head under the faucet and let the water drip on his head for awhile. It's crazy.

Kristen

Meet Kristen, she is my father in law's dog and boy is she spoiled!!! We think she is around 8 years old. She was found by my mother in law's house. She is a really good dog just spoiled rotten. She lives with another dog Friday and two cats. Kristen runs the house. Her and Friday get treats when they come inside so she knows she can go outside, run right back in and get a treat. She is pretty mouthy and wants all the toys. She is scared of thunderstorms, they both are. She loves loves loves belly rubs and will sit in your lap all day. Her and Missy used to be big buddies but now not so much. Sometimes she is allowed to run the property and the first thing she does is run straight to our house to go potty. Thanks Kristen.

Saying goodbye...

I think the hardest thing about having a pet is knowing that more than likely you will out live them and have to say goodbye. Sometimes you know what is coming and have time to wrap your head around, other times it happens fast and unexpected. Either way it's hard.

Sunday started like any other Sunday..getting the dogs fed and the horses stalking me for their breakfast. We noticed our big mare Twinkle Toes was rolling a lot. They do that sometimes but she was doing it every few minutes. We went to town for just a little bit and came back to see her laying down. That's when I knew it wasn't good. Horses can't lay down for long periods off time. I went to get her up and noticed she was sweating really bad and breathing hard. She was also getting really agitated by the other two. So much so she was chasing them...she never runs. I had to get them separated and fast. Then I ran inside and called our horse vet. He told me to keep her walking and he would be there as soon as he could. Luckily both of my father in laws came to help me. One of them walked her and kept her up for an hour until the vet could get there. That seemed like the longest hour of my life.

The vet came and gave her medicine. Her heart beat was very fast indicating she was in a lot of pain. He did some exams and found she either had a tumor or her stomach was twisted.   Neither one was good. Even if we would of had thousands of dollars to get her to UGA for surgery, surgery is never a good option for horses. Plus she was so old that wasn't really an option. So I made the only choice I could. We said goodbye to Twinkle Toes. She went very fast, so fast the vet was shocked. That told us we did make the right decision. She is out of pain and running around some pasture up in heaven now probably bossing every one around. It hit me pretty hard yesterday, but especially this morning. She is always the first horse I see when I open the basement door to feed them. She always waited for me, sometimes patiently..sometime not so much. This morning no one was waiting for me.

Goodbye big girl....

Day in the life of Reba

Hey there it's Reba. Back in March I was wandering around and this guy found me, lucky for me because I had found a house where people left out shoes and well..shoes are meant to be chewed. The lady wasn't happy and almost called animal control on me. But I was saved by my now Uncle Jason. He took me to my new house and put me in the backyard with my sisters..once my mom saw me she couldn't say no. Dad wanted to keep me outside but mom put her foot down and I live with my three sisters and a cat.

I am only 7 months old and all I want to do is play and chew, chew and play. My day starts out waking up and going outside to potty. I have to sleep in a large crate because I can't control my mouth. It gets me in a lot of trouble..all I hear all day is "Reba Davis stop that". We go potty and eat then sometimes I get on the couch and snooze but most mornings Missy and I play. When I first got here Missy and I were the same size, not anymore! She shrunk. I like playing with Lola too but have to play gentle cause she is so little. Here is a picture of me on my first day at my new home.

When everyone goes to work I have to go back into my crate. I don't mind-I run in there and get a treat. I nap all day. When my mom and dad get back home I eat and then it's play time!!!!!!!!!!! Missy and I play a lot, most of the time she wants to play but sometimes she doesn't and gets cranky. I just follow her around until she plays with me.

I love to get my mom's socks and Angel's toys. I don't really play with Angel too much cause she is old and kinda grumpy. I sneak to get her toys but mom catches me every time! I love to go for walks. We usually go everyday and it is so much fun. Sometimes I grab Missy's leash and walk her. Not sure why but Dad doesn't like that at all. Here lately I have been trying to play with the cat Bullet. I just want to kiss on him and play but he makes these weird noises and tries to pop me. What's up with that? He is kinda crazy. When it's bedtime I get another treat and run into my crate to sleep. I am very happy to have found my forever home, and one day I am going to sleep in the bed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
