My shoes

We thought Reba was out of her bad chewing phase....we were wrong. She ate my shoe laces. And those were my good pair.

Saying goodbye...

I think the hardest thing about having a pet is knowing that more than likely you will out live them and have to say goodbye. Sometimes you know what is coming and have time to wrap your head around, other times it happens fast and unexpected. Either way it's hard.

Sunday started like any other Sunday..getting the dogs fed and the horses stalking me for their breakfast. We noticed our big mare Twinkle Toes was rolling a lot. They do that sometimes but she was doing it every few minutes. We went to town for just a little bit and came back to see her laying down. That's when I knew it wasn't good. Horses can't lay down for long periods off time. I went to get her up and noticed she was sweating really bad and breathing hard. She was also getting really agitated by the other two. So much so she was chasing them...she never runs. I had to get them separated and fast. Then I ran inside and called our horse vet. He told me to keep her walking and he would be there as soon as he could. Luckily both of my father in laws came to help me. One of them walked her and kept her up for an hour until the vet could get there. That seemed like the longest hour of my life.

The vet came and gave her medicine. Her heart beat was very fast indicating she was in a lot of pain. He did some exams and found she either had a tumor or her stomach was twisted.   Neither one was good. Even if we would of had thousands of dollars to get her to UGA for surgery, surgery is never a good option for horses. Plus she was so old that wasn't really an option. So I made the only choice I could. We said goodbye to Twinkle Toes. She went very fast, so fast the vet was shocked. That told us we did make the right decision. She is out of pain and running around some pasture up in heaven now probably bossing every one around. It hit me pretty hard yesterday, but especially this morning. She is always the first horse I see when I open the basement door to feed them. She always waited for me, sometimes patiently..sometime not so much. This morning no one was waiting for me.

Goodbye big girl....

Day in the life of Reba

Hey there it's Reba. Back in March I was wandering around and this guy found me, lucky for me because I had found a house where people left out shoes and well..shoes are meant to be chewed. The lady wasn't happy and almost called animal control on me. But I was saved by my now Uncle Jason. He took me to my new house and put me in the backyard with my sisters..once my mom saw me she couldn't say no. Dad wanted to keep me outside but mom put her foot down and I live with my three sisters and a cat.

I am only 7 months old and all I want to do is play and chew, chew and play. My day starts out waking up and going outside to potty. I have to sleep in a large crate because I can't control my mouth. It gets me in a lot of trouble..all I hear all day is "Reba Davis stop that". We go potty and eat then sometimes I get on the couch and snooze but most mornings Missy and I play. When I first got here Missy and I were the same size, not anymore! She shrunk. I like playing with Lola too but have to play gentle cause she is so little. Here is a picture of me on my first day at my new home.

When everyone goes to work I have to go back into my crate. I don't mind-I run in there and get a treat. I nap all day. When my mom and dad get back home I eat and then it's play time!!!!!!!!!!! Missy and I play a lot, most of the time she wants to play but sometimes she doesn't and gets cranky. I just follow her around until she plays with me.

I love to get my mom's socks and Angel's toys. I don't really play with Angel too much cause she is old and kinda grumpy. I sneak to get her toys but mom catches me every time! I love to go for walks. We usually go everyday and it is so much fun. Sometimes I grab Missy's leash and walk her. Not sure why but Dad doesn't like that at all. Here lately I have been trying to play with the cat Bullet. I just want to kiss on him and play but he makes these weird noises and tries to pop me. What's up with that? He is kinda crazy. When it's bedtime I get another treat and run into my crate to sleep. I am very happy to have found my forever home, and one day I am going to sleep in the bed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Angel's day

My mom adopted me 6 years ago and I love her to pieces. Her and I are a lot alike..we both love to eat, have long hair and like to take naps. For a long time I was the only dog in the house and it was nice. I did have to live with Bullet who is a tad on the crazy side but he keeps to himself mostly. Now I live with my dad and three sisters..and the cat.

A typical day for me starts early. I am ready to eat around 3 or 4 in the morning but my parents don't get up that early. Either myself or Missy wakes up dad and we run outside to potty. Then it's breakfast time!! I go crazy for food and herd my parents with my nose..I mean come on I am starving I haven't eat since dinner. We eat and then go outside until dad leaves. Shortly after that mom wakes up and we sit on the couch and snuggle. Occasionally that cat will come around but I am quick to herd him back into his room. I also like to lay in the bathroom and wait for him..I know but it's just fun.

When mom leaves Lola and I go into the bedroom. Lola loves to give me kisses-I try to ignore her hoping she stops but it doesn't work. We sleep all day..I usually sleep in the laundry basket. When dad or mom comes home it's dinner time!!!! Then we go outside and play. I hunt for bugs..I love bugs. I especially love grasshoppers and if someone tries to take them from me I get mad. Mom and I didn't have a fenced in yard like we do now and I love it. I dig holes, lay in the sun and just walk around. It's really nice except for when Missy and Reba are playing and run into me. Speaking of Reba-she is driving me nuts. I have a bunch of stuffed animals I hide on my bed and that stupid puppy keeps getting them. Every time I turn around she has one in her mouth. I take very good care of my toys but she destroys hers. Luckily mom and dad get my stuff back for me.

I love to go on walks and when it is cool our parents take us. They take me and Lola first. Lola runs down the driveway but then gets tired so mom has to carry her back. About 8 every night I stalk my dad...cause at bed time we treats. We eat and then go to bed, I usually sleep next to my mom on the floor. I like sleeping in the bed but it gets hot and Missy and Lola take up a lot of room.

Okay is it breakfast time yet??? I am HUNGRY.

Good home needed

I know this is a long shot but thought I would try...last week this cute black dog showed up at our house as I was leaving for work. I went to get into my car to leave and she jumped inside. So I took her to my father in law's house so he could hold her and make sure I didn't run her over. Well she never left...and no one is looking for her. She was very hungry and had ticks. We think she got dumped like so many dogs are. We don't think she is even a year old. She loves people but is a little unsure of other dogs. Right now she is in a large fenced in area with a dog house next to Patty and Huffy but we would really like to find her a home where she could live inside with access to a fenced in yard. We named her Sadie and she is very sweet. It's hard to take a good picture because she gets so excited when we go see her. She looks bigger here than in person. We think she is only 30lbs and we don't think she will get much bigger. She has a docked tail and long hair. If anyone is interested please let me know. With four girls in our house we can't bring her over there....she is really lonely and we would love to find her a good home.

When Chihuahuas go wild...

Our sweet little princess has a sneaky streak...she takes random stuff and runs into her green chair to chew on them. So far she has swiped a coaster, guard for hair clippers, tiny screwdriver, uncooked spaghetti noodle and my favorite...Angel's hair from her hair cut. She loves soft furry stuff.

We have also discovered our sweet, mild mannered baby turns into Kugo when you give her this skunk toy her dad bought. It is one of those toys with no stuffing and really soft. OH MAN does she love that. We had to take it away though because she bit me, my husband and tried attacking Reba (there is a 55lb difference between them). She got down right mean about it.

Cute picture

Some issues...

So we are having some issues...I guess with four girls that is going to happen. After a big fight this morning I have contacted someone for help. I think the big problem is we are not the pack leaders in our house, Missy is. Missy is overall a great dog. But she "snaps" sometimes. One second she is fine then she gets mad. If one of the girls is on the bed, couch or chair and Missy wants to get up there she will. But if Missy is on one of those things and one of the girls even walks by Missy gets very vocal and aggressive. She seems to be very protective of Lola also. Lola thinks she is a big dog and runs right in the middle of the Missy and Reba. Missy will start growling we think because she doesn't want Reba to hurt the baby. And if one of them snaps at her it is a huge fight. This morning Missy accidentally stepped on Angel's tail and Angel snapped which then had Missy on top of her fighting. So I had them fighting and Reba and Lola right there in the middle of it. So by myself I had to grab Missy (which that makes her even madder) and try to get the other three to calm down. With Lola being so small we are always very careful with her. Fun morning!

UPDATE-So I talked to someone who I think could really  help us but we just don't have the money. It really is a good price considering but we just don't have it. My goal is to walk Missy, and the other babies, everyday. Exercise seems to help all of them a lot but especially her and Reba.

Duke

Duke is a black lab mix and Mookie's buddy. There was a momma dog some years back that had puppies. She put Duke and his brother Spot on my father in law's porch and then left. When they were little they stayed in the house but now they are too big and are outside. Duke is a great dog and a really sweet boy. When you give him a treat he eats it whole. You have to be careful because he eats them so fast he sometimes chokes a little.

So funny...

Last night Jack our Tennessee Walker started walking really fast going past our backyard..then went to a full canter. He is so beautiful when he runs. He ran straight into the barn and then stuck his head out of the front and looked around. Something spooked him..knowing him it was field mice.
